World Physiotherapy announces location for congress in 2025

The dates for the congress will be Thursday 29 May-Saturday 31 May 2025.

Tokyo had previously been announced as the location for the general meeting and congress in 2023. However, travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic made it impossible to hold these activities in Japan in 2023.

The Japanese Physical Therapy Association (JPTA) has been a member of World Physiotherapy since 1970 and, with more than 107,000 members, is the largest of World Physiotherapy’s 127 member organisations.

Emma Stokes, World Physiotherapy president, said: “We are grateful it has been possible to reschedule the congress in Tokyo from 2023 so that we can be there in 2025. It will be wonderful to welcome congress participants from around the world to Tokyo. Holding our congress in Japan continues our commitment to reach and build physiotherapy communities across the world.

“JPTA is very committed to making the congress a great success and we are looking forward to working with the Japanese physiotherapy community to deliver another exciting global event.”

Hideyuki Saito, Japanese Physical Therapy Association president, said: “We understood the difficult decision World Physiotherapy made to not hold the congress in Japan in 2023, due to COVID-19.

“However, we are very pleased that we have emerged from that difficult situation and we look forward to hosting the World Physiotherapy Congress in Tokyo in 2025. The year 2025 also marks JPTA’s 60th anniversary. We look forward to sharing with the participants from all over the world the 60 years of development of physiotherapy in Japan, our approach to physiotherapy and advocacy as the society with the highest aged population in the world.

“We will continue to work with World Physiotherapy to support holding a highly successful congress in 2025.”
